Dear Readers,

Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe that the holidays have rattled past and we are now staring down a big, blank 2012. We were just at First Night Raleigh, watching the acorn drop, but it just doesn’t seem real. The cookies aren’t stale and some of our trees aren’t down, and it’s a bit tempting to curl up with a blanket and a platter of sweets and act like this brand-new year isn’t upon us. Sometimes after the glitter of the holidays it doesn’t feel like there’s a lot to look forward to, with still-short days and winter just settling in. And, let’s face it, most of us are off to a shaky start on those resolutions, what with the aforementioned cookies.

To combat this post-holiday malaise, Drawl is bringing you some fun in this issue. Yes, we’ll talk (briefly) about getting off to a good start this year, and we’ll talk about the last bit of football as the stadium yells begin to fade. But, then we will turn toward lighthearted parties, cooking, and travel plans. Just because the holidays have passed, that’s no reason to stop entertaining or seeing new places!

In February, we’ll be updating the issue with some new content. Be sure to check out content from some of our new contributors both in the January issue and in the February updates. We have new travel writers, a wine column, and lots of great articles from new writers all over the South.

This year, we at Drawl will keep bringing you more and more of the South you love. We hope you’ll ride along all year and into the next. Please join the conversation in the comments of the site, and feel free to drop us a line at contact@drawlmag.com. We LOVE to hear from y’all!

Best wishes to you and yours for 2012 and beyond!

About Summerlin Page

With thrift store taste on a Rose’s budget, Summerlin Page has been soaking up Southern culture from a skewed point of view her whole life, turning her into a teacher, writer, editor, cosmetic consultant, and performer. Most comfortable in a kitchen, college classroom (on either side of the desk), or holding a pen, she's a recovering Southern Baptist raised in the country by a roving band of little old ladies. She runs on high octane coffee and loves her “real job,” dogs, doggish cats, candlelight, typewriters, vintage clothing, retro hairstyles, literature, history, kitsch, pole dancing, cemeteries, plaid, diners, autumn, seasonally appropriate alcoholic beverages, glitter, cake, pie, the Lawrence Welk show, pumpkins, college basketball, atrocious holiday decorations, liquid eyeliner, lipstick, the elderly, big earrings, yard art, high-heeled shoes, tourist traps, her family, and Mr. B. She can occasionally be found yapping at www.kitschenbitsch.com.
