Dear Readers,      Welcome back to another autumn issue. We're excited to be back and to have you along for the ride!       After the slow hot days of summer, the breezes are bringing us back to life. We're ready for football, fall leaves, and cool evenings outside with friends.       This issue is packed with music reviews and fun columns from our writers. We also have some off-season travel recommendations and reminders to prepare for the height of hurricane season.       Also, we have one very special recipe. Since it's our second birthday, we decided cake was in order -- handheld, savory cupcakes. We used our most utilized (and, well, maybe overused looking at our recipe archives) recipe to top them. Our other gift is the fresh look for the site.       Thanks...

Dear Readers,      Welcome to our Autumn Issue! We’re so happy to be back and we’re tickled to death that you’re visiting. This is our favorite time in the South, and this autumn is extra-special.      You see, this issue marks Drawl’s first anniversary. The little online alt-Southern magazine that could has been here for a year, and we have you lovely readers and our contributors to thank for this success. What was an exciting (and, admittedly, scary) idea last summer has become, over 200 articles and recipes later, a bi-monthly online publication with a following.      We could not have come this far without our contributors, who have worked very hard in the last year to bring us stories from all over the South. We also thank you, the readers, who believe in...

Dear Readers,      Porch swings. Summer camp. Skeeters. Sweet tea. Lightning bugs. Mater sammiches. Sweet corn.      Welcome to Drawl’s Summer Issue. As ever, we’re tickled you’re here, and tickled to be here. Many of us down South are recovering from the whiplash of being jerked into 100-degree-plus temperatures after one of the coolest starts to summer some of us have ever experienced.      The heat is no doubt here to stay, so grab yourself a cool drink (a Bluemade, perhaps?) and find a shady spot to read the latest out of the South and our happy band of Southerners. We’ve welcomed aboard several new writers debuting in this issue.      We’re especially happy to have interviewed Mike Wiley for this issue, and we’re also bringing extra music reviews, stories from the road, and...

Dear Readers, Happy almost-summer! May kicks off with so much excitement -- Mother’s Day, graduations, the annual rolling in of shower and wedding invitations, the increasing abundance in the farmers markets -- that it’s hard not to feel like a kid about to get out of school. Of course, down South we’re soaking up all the outdoors we can before Ma Nature cranks the heat up to 100° and the humidity to after-dinner dishrag. This month we’re keeping it light with some activities that won’t bust your summer budget and a little soul-feeding music and sight-seeing. Red’s heading out on his first great adventure, and we hope y’all are preparing for adventures of your own, whether traveling cross country or poking around your own town. We’d love to hear what you’re up to. To...

Dear Readers, Thanks for joining us for the April reboot of Drawl. We are so excited for spring we can hardly stand it. I always thought that I looked forward to spring after a really rough winter, but after the completely mild winter we had, it seems like a lot of us are itching for spring worse than usual. If we can’t have a snow day, let’s have some produce! Speaking of produce, the farmers markets down South are coming to life and the first produce of the season inspired our recipes this month. We have an Easter menu for you and some new reviews. Happy Spring! We hope to see you back in May. Summer’s just around the corner... Summerlin...
